The Javelina or Collared Peccary is a common sight under the bird feeders at least until the prickly pear cactus comes into spring flowering where they often fight over seed droppings while green jays often feed for these same seeds on their backs.

Very nice park for family tent camping - Tent camped for two nights (Thursday and a Friday) in early November. Park was very quiet Thursday night, but filled up for Friday (and probably Saturday too) with close proximity to Houston. Restroom facilities clean and average. Recreation facilities such as boat rental, fishing piers, and rental shop are well maintained and reasonably priced.
In general good family tent camping park relatively close to Houston.
Great Hiking - Park offers great day hiking, scenic views, natural preservation. Recommend it to friends, family and anyone interested in a great state park!
Fantastic time, everything for family - I abs loved our trip recently to Fort Parker and my family, all had fun and we each had things to do ,that we all enjoyed from canoe ride to nature trail. Fishing and the kids seeing the animals and the cookouts,, was great, then seeing the old conf reunion ground was a real education for all of us, as a teacher I def. want to plan a trip soon to let students experience some of the neat history .An absolute place to go anytime of the year, as we have gone to the fort even at Christmas time, and we drive two and a half hours and we still go back a weekend or a week,,great place, perfect price for the family!
Friendly Park - Our camping group went Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful time. People in the office were extremely nice and very helpful. About 15 of us went on the Owl Prowl Friday night and really enjoyed it. We got to see and hear several groups of owls. One of our most enjoyable camping trips
Awesome little get away - Family and I just bought a small RV and decided to try it out. Balmorhea State Park is only 3 hours or so from El Paso. I was hesitant at first, but pleasantly surprised! Extremely nice people in town, and at the site. Wild life was cool, pools were awesome. Will go again God willing, kids had a great time.
A great park - With all of the fixing up at the park it seems that they needed to work on the swimming area and on the access to the swimming area for people with disability. They have trouble going up and down the steps and getting into the water. My mother who used to love going swimming at the park no longer goes there to swim because she can not climb the steps or step into the lake with out hurting her self the park has nice things but poor access for the disabled or for very small children. Maby they can work on these things.
nice people - I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE PARK AND THE PARK EMPLOYEES.I AM AN OLDER PERSON AND THEY WERE VERY KIND TO ME AND MY CARE TAKER.WE HAD SPOT #20 AND IT WAS A GREAT SPOT FOR OUR R.V.we will be going there again.
- We had a great time camping there. The sites are great because they are not right on top of each other. The area is heavly wooded which makes for a great camping atmosphere. The bathrooms were older but very clean. A big bonus is that the park seemed very safe, we saw very friendly rangers pass by about every 30 minutes or so which made us feel very comfortable. We will definatly camp there again!
Deer Haven! - Took my nephews and daughter there to camp for Spring break. It was awesome. The lake is beautiful, and the campsites were nice and clean. Saw so many deer we lost count! Going back this year for some more fun!!
A Very Beautiful State Park - My wife and I visited Goose Island State Park this past Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, and we loved it. It is one of the better parks which we have visited.
Always a pleasant experience - My mom and dad took us there in 1959, and I have visited at any good opportunity since. My son and I liked to go in the winter when it is quiet, and in the summer to wade the cool, clear shallow branches. A lot of good memories.
