Great park. Generators did not bother us, I use one, hot is this part of the country. Would rather listen to a generator than a mother screaming at her kids because they are all hot.
July 11Regulate generator use
The Park Superintendent told me that he is sympathetic to complaints about generators, but that rules & regs about generators are controlled by the state legislature. If you will write a letter to him about your concerns, he can use this as additional support when the Parks Dept goes to the legislature to request a change in the rules & regs. I suggest you be specific about details, such as dates of visits, number of generators, whether they shut them down at 10:00 as required, how it negatively impacted your stay.

We are from California and have been to a few camp sites in New Mexico. This was the best one ever. It is very clean even our 2 year old Dashhound loved it. We loved that it has showers. The lake was nice and we loved that there is a few stores close by. We plan on going back and recommend this site to everybody!!

I usually am out in the unimproved areas because I love it and I dont have to hear the generator noise. I do agree they need to be banned and I hope that will happen in the future. I do also wish the state would have more rangers around because it can get a little unruly in the campgrounds and theres no rio arriba sheriffs in sight.

I do not know why people use a generator in campgrounds. This is so nosy and rude.
Do they need to power a TV?
Generators should be prohibited at Heron lake.

For the past 2 years we have camped at Lake Heron for a week. We have made is a two family tradition. Camp grounds are well kept and the lake is awesome.

We camp at the Heron Lake State Park several times a year. We canoe, fish, hike and bike. Clean camp grounds, nice people, fun place to camp.
