One of the few public parks on the shores of Hauser Reservoir, Black Sandy is an extremely popular weekend boating, fishing, and water skiing take-off point. This site is 44 acres in size and has an elevation of 3,669 feet. There are 29 sites (4 additional sites are for tents) that offer both flush and vault toilets, RV dump station, grills/firerings, picnic tables, trash cans, drinking water, and interpretive displays. Groceries, laundry, showers, public telephone, etc. available adjacent to the park. There are 3 public golf courses and 8 museums located nearby in Helena. Camping fees are $15.00 per night and for non-resident visitors, the day use fee is $5 per vehicle.
This is an old facility that is a favorite of the locals, especially the boat ramp. Side by side camping, overnight boat docking for campers. Has a 7 day limit! White Sandy very close by and probably not as crowded but it is very new.
June 24A regular spot for us
The camp spots are a bit closer together than you may want, but the docks are nice, the water is warmer at that end of the lake and they have bathrooms where you can actually wash your hands. We spend many weekends of the summer at this camp spot.
May 17A beautiful spot, but...
You are right on top of your neighbors. Ours were very noisy, and ran a chainsaw for at least 20 minutes at 8:00 p.m.
July 15our least favorite
It is too crowded and the campers are too close together. No room to move or have a little privacy.
Hauser Lake State Park, Black Sandy Unit is located 7 miles north of Helena on I-15, then 4 miles east on Secondary 453, then 3 miles north on Hauser Dam Road.
